Senior Pet Health Checks
May 4, 2026As our beloved pets grow older, their health requirements change – just like ours do. At Bellarine Veterinary Practice, we understand the unique challenges that come with aging pets. That’s why we offer dedicated Senior Health Checks designed to keep your companion healthy, comfortable and happy in their golden years.
Pets over the age of seven years are recommended to have comprehensive health checks every 6 months. These visits are tailored to detect early signs of age-related conditions and to ensure your pet’s quality of life remains high.
Our Senior Health Program – What to Expect
At the first visit, a full physical examination of your pet is conducted by one of our experienced veterinarians. During this appointment, you’ll also have the chance to speak with a veterinary nurse about your pet’s:
- mobility
- nutrition
- dental care
- behaviour
- parasite prevention
- and any other concerns you may have
The veterinarian will administer any necessary vaccinations, medications and discuss further medical evaluations if required.
Six months later, your pet will return for a mid-year visit that focuses on monitoring your pet’s health and identifying any new or developing issues. Our highly qualified, caring nurses will perform screening tests such as blood pressure measurement and urine testing.
It is helpful if you bring a fresh urine sample with you to this visit. Your veterinarian will also do a thorough health check of your pet and discuss routine blood testing. If anything unusual is found on the screening tests, our veterinary team will arrange a plan to provide further assessment and care for your pet.
Comprehensive Support for Aging Pets
In addition to regular check-ups, our senior pets often require chronic disease monitoring and may need referral to specialists for more complex health concerns. At Bellarine Veterinary Practice, we’re committed to supporting both you and your pet through every stage of life, including helping you make compassionate decisions when the time comes to consider end-of-life care.
We believe that senior pets deserve to age with dignity and comfort and our senior health checks are designed to give you peace of mind and to ensure your pet experiences the best possible quality of life.
