Australian Small Animal Veterinary Association (ASAVA) Accreditation
Bellarine Veterinary Practice first received the esteemed ASAVA Hospital Accreditation in 1990. We continue to maintain our standards and practice according to the select criteria of this globally reputed accreditation scheme. We are currently the only veterinary practice in the Geelong region that has achieved this recognition.
What is an accredited hospital? Who gives the accreditation?
Accreditation is the highest status that can be achieved by a veterinary hospital in Australia. For small animal hospitals this is managed by the ASAVA. Follow the link below to the criteria to see the comprehensive list of requirements that must be met. You can see that they cover not just physical facilities but also levels of equipment, staff training, treatment protocols, availability of current reference materials and a host of other issues. This is similar to the quality assurance schemes that apply to many other industries and businesses.
How many are there nation wide? In August 2009 there were only 32! That makes the accredited hospitals an elite group who aspires to provide the best possible veterinary services to their clients.
