Vaccinations

Veterinary practice has always recommended the annual adminstration of vaccines by encouraging owners to bring their pets for yearly vaccinations.  In addition, the annual visit provides an opportunity to inform clients of important aspects of canine and feline health care and vets are able to recognise and treat disease earlier than might otherwise have been the case.

Many clients have come to believe that vaccinations are the most important reason for their pets annual visit.  Emphasis should be placed on a detailed physical examination by the veterinarian and individualised patient care.  The importance of dental care, proper nutrition, diagnostic testing (ie. kidney function, diabetes), parasitic control and zoonotic diseases should be addressed during the evaluation of each pet. Behaviour concerns should be discussed, as well as the necessity for more frequent examination of young and geriatric animals.

As advised by the World Small Animal Veterinary Assocation (2010)
