In recent years BVP has joined the PennHIP program (University of Pennsylvania Hip Improvement Program). Dr John Quinane and Dr Barbara Wright are currently two of the few Certified PennHIP Veterinarians in Australia.  BVP also has several staff members trained as PennHIP Technicians.  However with a growing trend to support this system for hip evaluation and scientific analysis through a global network of veterinarians, we will see the PennHIP program gain popularity in Australia.

In fact in 2007 the Australian Veterinary Association announced that it will adopt the PennHIP system in conjunction with its current hip evaluation screening program for a period of 5 years; at the end of this time both methods will be evaluated for their efficacy in reducing canine hip dysplasia.

The PennHIP system for hip evaluation requires a standardized methodology for hip radiology that is supervised by Dr John Quinane. We also have several staff members who have been trained as technicians to support the program at BVP.
